Job Summary

As a Tutor Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting both students and the tutors who work with them. In this full-time, remote position, you'll be the central point of contact for the tutors you supervise, mentoring them through their first Summit students all the way to supporting them as they reach senior tutoring positions. You’ll coach them, evaluate their performance, and address any concerns about their programs and students, while also ensuring high-quality academic support for your own students. This role requires a blend of people management, educational insight, and operational oversight, and is ideal for someone who enjoys both coaching professionals and driving student outcomes. Flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evening or weekend work with students, is essential to meet the needs of students and families.

Work hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned tutors by:
    • Providing mentorship and performance feedback
    • Conducting regular check-ins and annual performance reviews
    • Managing tutor performance, including coaching and corrective action as needed
    • Reviewing students’ programs, schedules, and progress
  • Provide ongoing tutor coaching and program oversight:
    • Ensure tutors assign appropriate homework and practice tests while adhering to the initial program recommendations
    • Work closely with the Program Directors to help students reach their goals
    • Track session pacing, homework, and practice test completion
    • Select and assign tutors to new students as needed
  • Maintain these same standards for your own caseload of students 
  • Assist Human Resources in the tutor hiring process:
    • Conduct second round, role-play interviews with candidates
    • Review the overall candidacy of prospective tutors and make hiring decisions that support the current and future needs of Summit Educational Group
  • Serve as backup for other Tutor Managers during periods of paid time off or absence

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, at minimum
  • Prior experience in education or academic program management
  • A track record of adhering to all Guidewell Education tutor/mentor policies and best practices
  • Competency in all sections of the SAT and ACT; additional test and subject qualifications are a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to promptly analyze and respond to student progress and tutor effectiveness
  • Comfortable working remotely and managing priorities independently
  • Flexibility to occasionally tutor some evenings and weekends based on student schedules
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a 200-hour annual tutoring requirement 
  • Familiarity with the Northeast United States (Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut) is a plus
  • Understanding of, and experience with, Summit Educational Group’s services is a plus
 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary $58,000 to $63,000 annually based on experience
  • Quarterly bonus opportunities, totaling up to $5,000 annually
  • Additional compensation for tutoring beyond the 200-hour annual expectation
